ML Anderson Quality Painting is family-owned and operated. It started in 2019 in Bellevue, Washington, and now proudly serves the entire state. 

The company was born from a passion and vision to serve my community. To me, painting is more than a hobby or something I’m good at; it’s my saving grace – and a second chance.

Growing up on the tough streets of the San Francisco Bay Area, I was like many other young Black boys, without positive role models or outlets.

With no father to look to and a mother facing many challenges, I left home at 12 years old after being forced out, with nowhere to go. I experienced abandonment and quickly began living a fast-paced lifestyle. I found myself in trouble often, trying to provide myself with the necessities. 

Then one day, at 13, my Uncle in law, Jerry Green, learned what was going on and took me under his wing. He became the positive role model I so desperately needed. 

Jerry was an excellent painter and owned a company called “Jerry Green Painting”. This relationship allowed me to visit job sites with Jerry, and learn the trade of painting. Finally, I had found a mentor and a reliable way to provide for myself. Painting became my saving grace and my peace. I also played drums in the church to make extra money. I painted throughout middle school and high school. 

In 2016 I moved to Bellevue, WA. After working briefly for a painting company, I knew I had to branch out on my own to live my purpose. My goal is to leave a legacy of my own one day through ML Anderson Quality Painting. 

As I reflect on the long talks, the prayers, the tears, and the love I received from Jerry, I’m inspired to become a mentor for young people who, because of some twist of fate, are walking in the shoes I once stood in. To demonstrate this, I’ve committed to dedicating a portion of the proceeds from each project to the ML Anderson Quality Painting Building Youth Through our Community program. The program teaches Black and Brown King County area youth the trade of painting and allows them to earn a stipend.
